Most of the Hasidics are in Kew Garden Hills (not too far from FH)

Black hat != Hasidic.

KGH is Orthodox/Yeshivish. Forest Hills is mixed Jewish, lots of Bukharans.

Aside from some Chabadniks there are not many Hasidim in Queens at all. You want Hasidim, go to Brooklyn (Borough Park and Williamsburg especially--Crown Heights is well known for its Chabad population but numbers wise, it's actually not that big).

I like both areas but I'd pick Forest Hills over Astoria for a few reasons. My main reason is better transportation choices.

In Astoria you have the local R train at Steinway or the N at 31st Street.

In Forest Hills you have four subway lines (E-F-R-V) and plus the LIRR if you don't feel like the subway.

The only downside is the Continental Avenue Station, has been among the hottest subway stations for as a long as I can remember during the sweltering days of the year.
