SuperWario..my precious Mott Haven? Lol...that's something you don't hear everyday. What you fail to realize is that 2007 was the RECORD LOW crime rate for the past 45 years for Mott Haven, which has been the trend for the past 15 years..DECREASING CRIME. So yes the crime rate had a SLIGHT uptick above the 45 year record low..which means? It means that instead of the LOWEST crime rate on record (since they have been keeping records 1962), it will be SECOND lowest on record. Yeah that really sucks! Lol....you can keep trying to focus on the negative..but the reality is..long term crime rate trends are going down in the city AND Mott Haven..not up. Sure we have upticks here and there, but thats how it works...they don't go down infinitely forever in a straight line. I'm good...and so is my "precious" Mott Haven!

But the top 4, I mentioned above are usually consistent.
This year so far:
73rd: 24 (down 2.4%)
44th: 19 (up 18.8%)
46th: 12 (down 7.6%)
75th: 12 (down 58%)
I cant believe how low the homicide total in East NY is. I just cant believe it.

Its pretty well known that the stats are fixed. Stop looking at the numbers.

They had 29 (33 total) at this point last year. They are way down. Only 12 so far. Interesting.

I think they do fudge numbers. But usually not homicides.

Oh, Im sorry.
Im just happy that I dont live in a precinct that has seen a 8% increase in homicides, 24% increase in rapes, 17% increase in robberies and 18% increase in burglaries.
I am fine with my precinct that has a 42% decrease in homicides, 8% decrease in rapes, 6% decrease in robberies and an 8% decrease in felony assaults.

Well that depends, sometimes they will push certain crimes on other sections, mis- categorize crimes, and alot of crimes go un reported. Besides homicides usually don't occur at random, so i wouldn't consider that a threat.
The point is that the stats are an unreliable source to find out how safe a neighborhod is. Human contact and conversation is the best way to get to know a neighborhood.

Agreed. It's hard to fudge homicides. As a matter of fact, a guy is doing his own counting of homicides and his number is lower than the NYPD's number.

Agreed. But I still believe if you are going to look at stats. Homicide is the best indicator. Its usually the stat that's least fudged, and IMO they are a good indicator of how dangerous a neighborhood can be.
