I was just curious as to how safe and convenient Jackson Heights, Corona, and Elmhurst were. I want something convenient to Manhattan, but I also don't want to sacrifice safety either. Thanks!

while those areas are from from being the worst NYC has to offer, they are not exactly the nicest or safest places either. Some spots are better than others, you need to visit and see for yourself
I feel very safe in Jackson Heights and walk back late (2am, 3am) from the subway without looking over my shoulder. However, there was a shooting on Roosevelt ave not long ago. Even so, I much prefer living in JH over many other neighborhoods in Brooklyn that have comparable rents where some of my friends are living where people ARE getting jumped regularly for their ipods and cell phones.
Forest Hills feels safer to me than Jackson Heights, although JH has much more interesting restaurants. Forest Hills is more family oriented, I would say.

I would agree - that Forest Hills feels safer because it is quieter in general, a bit more upscale and you don't have the vice on Roosevelt Ave to contend with. But that said, I prefer JH over Forest Hills maybe for exactly those same reasons, though Forest Hills seems like a very nice place to live.
Forest Hills is such a safe, family-oriented neighborhood... nice, classy people live here, the restaurants and shopping are nice, and it's just a pleasant place to live. also, ps 196 is here... one of the best public schools in all of NYC
Lefferts Blvd is a charm. Great Indy theater! Decent places to eat. Forest Hills is extremely close if I want more shopping/restaurants.
Then you must love the Danny House! What a hole in the wall. But food and pizza to die for!
