my school is on the upper east side, but for some reason, the kid who's planning our graduation party booked it at a club in East NY (brooklyn). my parents said it's terrible, crime-ridden, adn that i def. can't go. anyone have opinions on traveling in East NY? (party is from 11pm to 4am) and my dad refuses to drive me
How could an UES high school possibly have a grad party in ENY? It's a very different environment, to say the least, from what you are used to. It's also pretty far and inaccessible. You can certainly take the subway, but I wouldn't recommend it at night. You won't find any cabs in the area at night, either. And even during the day, majority of the cabs you might flag down in Manhattan won't even agree to take you there. Some say to just get in the cab, tell the driver you're going to Brooklyn Heights or Park Slope and "change your mind" later, and ask him to go to ENY.

listen to your parents, they have the experience that you lack and they are looking out for your safety and best interests. I suspect that someone planning this party thought it would be cool to go to the ghetto for the urban experience, it's a huge mistake on their part
I agree that it was strange for them to book the party in East New York, when there are literally tons of places in Manhattan. But on the other hand I doubt anything will happen as long as you don't wander around by yourself...
Basically what I'm saying is don't stay around in the area too long. Go to the place, stay indoors, and then get out...
haha. I had to register just to post that I'm laughin.
Where in East New York? There's nowhere really to party over here. I don't live too far away. Do your friends like reggae and the basement of webster hall by any chance?
alright, thanks for everyone's feedback. Also, could anyone give me an idea of just how bad East New York is (late at night). Is it more seedy/poor or like, very dangerous? Are the chances of getting attacked pretty high, if my friends were to walk to the subway or even just take a cab. Because none of my friends believe me... they just say I'm scared for nothing, which now I believe is untrue
