Default Transport Services from Germany to New York.

I will be moving from Dresden, Germany to New York in the Fall/Winter. What is the cheapest way to transport my belongings from the 10 years I have been living in Germany? Actually, I do not have that much stuff, but probably enough that sending it by UPS/mail would be quite expensive, and probably to little stuff to send it by a container (which would probably be really expensive as well).

Define stuff: furniture? Not worth shipping, IMO. It's probably cheaper to sell it (or give it away) and buy new stuff here, especially since you'll be converting euros to dollars.

When I moved from London I used a shared container service - there were a few around, I just did a spot of Googling. Took a bit longer but was much, much cheaper - basically paid by cubic volume.

How's your German? There's a site for German expats in the USA (Germanicans) - between the forum members they must have used all manner of methods to get their stuff over and so may have some recommendations for you.
