Default Direct Buy

I just returned from a meeting with a sales person at Direct Buy's showroom on West 35th and 7th Avenue. The presenation was informative. According to the store there are 1,000 mfg's who members can buy directly from at the mfg wholesale price. DB makes there money buy charing a membership fee that covers 3 years, the cost 5k.

If you are a member i would like to know:

do you like it
is it worth the money
how do they handle returns
do they deliver to your apt/home

I am not a member, but I have only ever heard that it is not worth the money and that the "deals" are harder to get than they make it seem.

Search the web.

Google the words....

direct buy complaint

De Wrecked Buy has been involved in a few lawsuits. You can do better in most cases by watching sales.

DirectBuy membership is a complete waste of money. The $4,600 membership fee plus S&H charges prevent any real savings. DirectBuy staff told me they carry the two top cabinetry brands in the U.S. and that my granite countertops would cost $28/ft. Neither was true. The cabinets arrived in poor condition. A local granite fabricator was less expensive.

I don't like DirectBuy and suggest anyone run away quickly. Returns are difficult. Deliveriers are sometimes made to your home. In the case of the cabinets, I was promised that they would be delivered to my condo on the 4th floor but the Omega delivery man left them on the street, he wouldn't even put them on the driveway. BTW, DirectBuy also makes its money with the 8% handling fee it charges on just about everything.

My friend is a member of Direct Buy and she swears by it. She became a member when she finished a new home construction. I don't think is worth your money if you're going to buy just a few items. She furnished an ENTIRE house and is EXTREMELY happy. You do have to wait a couple of weeks for delivery. In her case that was right on schedule since she did all the footwork before closing on the house. She became a member in NYC but did the purchase of furnisher in atlanta, ga. I'm going to ask her to take me to the showroom one day, since I'm planning on buying a house to see how good of a deal you really get. I'll keep you guys posted....

Direct Buy is a national company. You should see a better response by moving post to the "General U.S." category. I was wondering about this company too.

I am a member and love it.

Well worth every penny.
I have never had to make a return, but did have a cracked dresser top, that was fixed, with a new dresser top, installed by people from the manufacturer (Ashley).
I know that they have delivery available where I live, but I have a truck and haven't needed it. Whirlpool delivered my dishwasher, stove and fridge for free, when Sears was going to charge me $50 bucks each and another $50 bucks each to haul away my old ones. The junkyard paid me $150 total for my old appliances, as they all were still in good working order when I dropped them there, plus the savings on the items themselves, about a couple of hundred on each unit.

Been a member for seven years and I've shopped at most of the DirectBuy showrooms in the New York area. I've easily recouped ten times the membership amount. I don't use it for everything, but for things that have higher profit margins (furniture, lighting, plumbing, cabinetry, area rugs, window treatments, home decor type stuff, jewelry, etc...) the savings has been great. Trust me, I'm a savvy internet shopper. I've saved on cheaper stuff when I was younger and have saved more on higher end items as my tastes matured.

I guess the naysayers just don't want to recognize that any other business that sells stuff is always out to make a profit. Best of luck to you.

I'm new to Direct Buy, and we have benefited from the membership. We like certain brands like Thomasville and Bradington-Young and what we saved certainly out ways what we paid for the membership. The extra fees are a little much but still the purchases don't equal the the original cost we would pay even with the extra fees. I agree with the sales pitch which says if you are for lower end items (not cheap, just less expensive) then Direct Buy is not the company to become a member with. As long as all my numerous purchases (finishing our basement) I have to make, out way my membership, than I'm good.
