Question about Yankee Stadium / Fans
I will be visiting New York in August and I plan on catching a Yankee game when I am there. Being from Houston I am an Astros fan but I want to be able to say I went to Yankee Stadium before it was torn down. I was just wondering a few things, 1) How are Yankee fans as far as welcoming in visitors? I have heard some stories but I would rather hear it from people who have actually frequented Yankee games. 2) Is there a section I should avoid sitting in when I visit?
If I have anymore questions I will be sure to ask. Thanks to everyone in advance for the help and I am sorry to post this here but I figured this would be the best place to get a pretty good answer.

they'll heckle you, but it won't go anything over the top since security is tight there and fans get ejected for saying the word sucks.

You'll be just fine, so long as you don't show up at Yankee Stadium wearing a Boston Red Sox cap.

Bag Storage???
My son and I are coming in from Memphis Tues. 7/29 for that night's game and the day game on 7/30. Is there a place near the Stadium to store a bag until the day game is over and we fly out??

I have shown up in Boston Red Sox cap many times and it's been OK lately since there are plenty of others in the same situation, at least when they are playing each other.
Otherwise, if you just go to a game and don't root actively against the Yankees you should have no problems at all. If you do root against the Yankees you will either have no problems, some mild teasing, or physical threats and beer thrown on you (pretty rare), depending on whom you're sitting near.
I have seen my share of negative experiences there (totally unrelated to me personally or the Red Sox), but I think security is tighter these days and it should not be a problem.

Try the Ball Park Lanes, bowling alley across the street. They have been checking bags for about $5. I'm not sure they do luggage but they might. Give them a call and explain. If they balk it might be worth it to pay more. Otherwise you lose time and a lot of convenience.

I had to laugh about the beer throwing incident, because it happened to me twice, once when I was a child and once as an adult. Both times, the fan had meant to hit someone nearby, in each respective incident. Both times, the fans did apologize profusely to me, though at the time I did not find it to be too funny; however, when it happened as an adult, the intended target started laughing at me for getting hit with the beer intended for him (a real class act there) and taunting them again, and all was fine for a few minutes. One of their party went to get something else, and had an "accident" and "inadvertently" got the intended victim with a mixture of soda and beer. It was so hilarious that I had to buy the guys a round of drinks.

You may be heckled. The heckling will be worse in the bleachers. But unlike some other sports fans, you will not be physically assaulted.

Once I was at the very top when they played Cleveland (this was Sept. 98, the Yankees were about 30 games up), and there were these guys throwing stuff at a poor innocent family from Ohio who had the audacity to root for the Indians. There were the parents and their two kids (maybe 8 and 10). Finally they threw a beer, prompting the guy they hit to get up and say, "I'm from the Bronx and now you hit ME." The NYPD came up and the dumba$$ said it was the people behind him. The cop says, "Idiot, you're in the top row." This was the era when the bleacher idiots threw batteries at David Justice, before the Yankees traded for him and they figured he was OK after all.
I was in the bleachers in 2000 the last day they sold alcohol and I know very well why they stopped. Some guy had a Mets shirt on and after 20 minutes of "a$$----, a$$----" chants, they proceeded to rip it from him, tear into little strips (like the lions in the Colosseum) and tried to dump the half-dressed guy into right field. There were about 10 other fights out there that night.
To the OP: avoid the bleachers.

Ah, the good old days. LOL I was actually in good seats both times that it happened, and I laugh about it now. The guy that got what was coming to him actually short circuited and caused a huge scene and the security guy totally took the side of the guy who "inadvertently" spilled everything, especially when he offered him $10 for cleaning. It was such a classic moment, and he tried to involve me saying that they had "assaulted" me, though my friends and I say that it was during an overexuberant cheer that the beer spilled on me, since they were clever enough not to throw the whole container. I think that was more entertaining than the game, which was against the Mariners.
