Default Queens vs Manhattan

This may be a silly question, but I am going to ask anyways.

If the rent on two different apartments (one in Queens and one in Manhattan) is exactly the same would the cost to live in Manhattan still be noticeably more than in Queens? I guess what sparked this question is that the income requirements for apartments in Queens are about 25-30 and in Manhattan 40-50.

Yup, it sure would. Food prices, dry cleaning, shoe repair, everything is more expensive in Manhattan.

As a general rule of thumb, everything except 99 cent Arizona iced tea cans are more expensive in Manhattan.

As a general rule, and as the previous posters pointed out, everyday living cots are more expensive in Manhattan than in the outer boroughs. As a general rule again, apartment sizes for the same classification of apartment are bigger in the outer boroughs, e.g., a studio in Manhattan can be much smaller than a studio in Queens but yet cost $400-$500 more per month to rent.

Manhattan has some far out areas of Queens and Brooklyn beat in at least one cost area - transportation. In the latter areas, one may be forced into buying an automobile whereas one need not have a vehicle in Manhattan. And as many know the true costs of owning an average priced car is approximately $500-$800 per month.
