Maybe what Materialism needs is to get out there and experience the other boroughs. From the standpoint of repeated dunkings in the Bronx River, for example.

Haven't seen Materialism on here in six months.
What clean streets are you talking about? Not anywhere I've seen lately

Ignore "materialism" as he/she/it is just a troll and knows nothing of NYC besides which Prada shoes go with which Armani Belt. That has nothing to do with NYC, living in NYC, or being from NYC, and everything to do with materialism!
And no NYC's future is far from being Disneyland anytime soon. Has anyone actually ventured outside of Rockefeller Center and Times Square?! I recommend riding the 1/6/2/4/F trains from one end to the other..and maybe even getting off at a few stops.....NYC is anything but Disney....I would not be worried if I were you.
Regarding yuppies, I have nothing against them, and they are no more valuable a group than anyone else in this city. They are part of the fabric of this city as much as anyone else....and we may have anecdotal evidence of their numbers rising, but the reality is...they are just one of MANY groups staking their claims in NYC that are coming in larger numbers, like Mexicans, Dominicans, Africans, and Asians, etc.

Only a tiny minority of NYC even feels like a yuppified "Disneyland" - I second your recommendation that some of these people ride the 2 or 4 train from all the way up in the Bronx to all the way down in Brooklyn. They should walk around Bushwick, Wakefield, East New York, Belmont, Corona, Jamaica before declaring that all of the city has gone to the "rich;" the "rich" only compose a small part of the city's population! Even most of Manhattan below 96th street - LET ALONE above it - doesn't feel like yuppie Disneyland.

I dont know what you're trying to do but seeing as ENY is there, you may be refering to rough areas.
I wouldn't put Corona, Belmont, and Jamaica in the same breath as ENY. These aren't terrible. Bushwick has seen gentrification so I would remove that one too.

Yes this is an entertaining thread... I would like to put my vote in for grit. There has to be some grit or a city just doesn't feel right. What would New Orleans be without grit?

New Orleans does not have grit..it has extreme poverty and violence...which many parts of NYC still have. NYC was gritty back in the 60s and 50s...after that it became extremely poor, drug infested and dangerous...and many parts still are.

I'm not removing any of them because none of them are Disneyland and that's the point. Maybe Corona's just "bad" while ENY is "horrible," but neither is Disneyland. I should add University Heights to the list too, shouldn't I, Mario?

I allegedly know nothing of NYC because I don't sit here and blog about section 8 and affordable housing? Or is it because I don't flood the forum with posts about far fetched slums in Bronx? Which is it?
How is heralding that dreadful Mott Haven any better than my posts? I'm sorry Prada, Le Cirque, Nobu and luxury in Manhattan are more relevant to my life than foodstamps/government assistance. I like luxury and can afford it.
I know you wish that were your case but too bad.
