So I decide, it was now or never. I"M MOVING TO NYC. I'm so nervous but crazy excited. I just wanted to share and get some feedback.
Here's my situation:
I'm young, 23, college educated and have 5k in the bank.
I dont have housing lined up. However, i'm looking for roommates via craigslist and other sites. I dont have a job yet, either but i have a degree in accounting and I'm not too worried about finding work. I'm estimating that I can pull in atleast $45K/year from a job.
What do you think? Am I crazy to pack all my stuff in my car and just go?

depends on your tolerance for risk and dealing with difficult situations. It might be difficult for awhile, but if you can get settled in and find a job w/in 2 months, then why not? seems like as good a time as any. go for it.
have you researched the job market for accountants in ny? what about temp firms to tide you over til you find a "real" job?
No, you're not crazy. You just think you are! As long as you make the move with your eyes open, you'll be fine. Everybody puts such a huge emphasis on the amount of money you need to live here--just remember that the median family income for all of New York City is a shade over $38,000/year. And that's for a city with 8.2 million residents. If that many people can get by, there's no reason one more couldn't!
We have lived in Denver, Washington DC, Sydney Australia, London and NYC. By far, NYC is where we were happiest and where we ache to return to. We lived there for 7 years until we left in 2005. It is the most fabulous place in the world and I think you will enjoy your adventure. Do lots of research before you go - NY times real estate section online, Village Voice (if it still exists), CraigsList, etc. Think about living in Brooklyn - you can have a shortish commute to downtown (if you work downtown). I would definitely talk to temp agencies before you arrive so that you can hit the ground running. Don't be nervous - just prepared!
