Hull St in Brooklyn?
Hi All!
I am new to this site. I am looking to move to Brooklyn from Long Island. I found a 1 BDRM condo in Hull St in BK (right off of Broadway), in my price range. I am not familiar with this area. It is listed as Bed-Stuy but is it really Bushwick & an unsafe area? A friend of mine said I should pass. I have heard that they are building up Bushwick (like other areas of Brooklyn) so I would hate to pass on this now & be kicking myself down the road. Any thoughts?? I really appreciate it!

I have to agree on this one. It may be considered Bed-Stuy (not too sure about that) but if it is, it is not Bed-Stuy proper and that area is pretty rough.

This is East New York. At least I think it is, because it is only about a block from Broadway Junction in East New York.
An easy answer to the OPs question is to go to google maps, type in the address and click "street view" and just go up and down the street. Besides being in a sh&tt neibhorhood, the building is right next to the elevated train tracks (noise and dirt) and to the left of the builidng is a shack that looks like it belongs in a third world country. Go down one block to Hull St and Mother Gaston Blvd and there's a deli on the corner that looks like the hangout spot for the neighborhood kids, and could the sign for WIC and food stamps be any bigger?
Pass and move on.

P.S. It looks like the prices are around $229K. If you don't mind a coop instead of a condo, why not look either in Queens (Woodside, Sunnyside, Jackson Heights or Forest Hills) or in Ditmas Park, Kensington, or Bay Ridge in Brooklyn. Those all fit your price range (for coops, not condos) and the neighborhoods are MUCH better.

Hull St in Brooklyn
Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your input. I wouldn't want to make a purchase in an area that is not safe. Also, thanks Henna, I knew it was close to the subway, but I had no idea it was an elevated track!
I would love to move to Queens, in the Kew Gardens/ Forest Hills etc area & condos there are out of my price range. Co-ops would be all that I could afford there. I have not heard anything positive about buying a co-op & I hear that they are very hard to re-sell.
