Default poor parts of Manhattan

I was wondering what are the parts of Manhattan that are bad or rough? I saw a few places there that interested me but I do not know what are the bad parts.

Harlem, Washington Heights, and Inwood are the roughest parts of Manhattan. These are also the poorest.

"Uptown"

Also the Lower East Side projects.

Inwood's really not bad for the most part. I'd rather live there than Harlem or the Heights.

Harlem is rough in a lot of areas still. Gentrification is suffocating the neighborhood, but it's still dangerous and spotty on many streets. Inwood and Washington Heights (esp the Heights) are rough in spots, and drug-infested. The Lower East Side has gentrified and almost completely changed the face of the neighborhood--and continues to do so. There are few areas that are bad--except inside and on the streets near the projects over there.

Also, areas on the west side in the 30s or 40s have always had a seedy edge to them. Many in the 40s are giving way to 40 and 50 story new highrises...but take a look on the west side still--some streets are shady and rough.

Inwood had a higher crime rate than Washington Heights last year. Also from Dyckman to 207 is as ghetto as anything in the city. Maybe it improves a little higher up but its not that good a neighborhood. ESPECIALLY compared to other parts of Manhattan.

For Inwood in the 10034 Zip code the average income is $28,357

For 10040 in Washington Heights is $27,909

These are poverty levels in the city.....each zip has about a 75% Dominican population.

I never seen more places sugar coated here than Inwood and the Heights. These are the ghetto thats point blank.

Income stats don't make it anything.

Woodside's (11377) average income is $31,447.
Elmhurst's (11373) is $27,193. That's LESS than Washington Heights.

Neither of those places is ghetto.

Elmhurst is that low?? I know it's not the richest place in the world, but that's a little surprising to me..

Woodside might not be the ghetto, but it has never been considered a well off neighborhood. Its been a 1st stop place for immigrants. Previously you had a lot of Irish moving into Woodside, now its lots of Hispanics and Fillipinos who are moving there.
