Yes, I say that you should bring your dog with you. If not for the unconditional love that a dog gives at the end of a bad day, then for the security that they provide. I know people who have large dogs, a huge German Shepherd, and two Golden Retrievers; and then I have friends who have two Miniature Schnauzers. The Shepherd lives in a 1BR in Manhattan, the Retrievers live in a 2BR in Brooklyn, and the Schnauzers live in a duplex in Manhattan. Both the Shepherd and the Retrievers have dog walkers who come to the apartment, take them for their midday walk, make sure all is well, and they do very well. In the evening, the owners take them for long walks/playtime at the park, and in the morning, it's a shorter walk with the owners. None of them are bored and dislike the city at all, especially since they have dog friends all over town. It's a great way to get to meet people, too, when you're new to the city. Interestingly, the Miniature Schnauzers were in daycare, but their owners felt they would be better served switching to a dog walker, due to the control over socialization with other dogs at the day care, since one of them was a little intimidated. If your dog likes socialization with other dogs, daycare can be good, though I would prefer to have more control over their environment in having someone take them out from their own apartment. Don't leave your dog behind, since they're a great friend, and a great means to making new friends and exploring your new neighborhood.
One thing that I just remembered is be sure to check your new apartment for issues, since someone I know had problems with their dog and radiators. The dog would love to look out the window and it was used to wearing its collar all the time, and this became an issue when the dog was stuck a couple of times, so be sure to look for hazards like that, and make sure the dog walker you hire is aware of any issues like that.
