Bedford Avenue and Bergen Street is actually Crown Heights, which is not a bad block. Your only issue would be the men's homeless shelter a few blocks up on Bedford Avenue and Atlantic Avenue.

The closest train station is at Nostrand Avenue and Fulton Street, which is in Bed-Stuy. At night time, its not the greatest neighborhood, and that particular area around the train station reminds me of the 80's, and how NYC used to be. For some reason, Fulton Street (Washington to Nostrand) has the most crackheads I've ever seen in Brooklyn. You also have the B65 bus that runs down Bergen Street, which will take you to Park Slope/Cobble Hill/Downtown Bklyn.

However, if you choose moving to Bedford and Bergen, I don't think it will be hard for you to get comfortable.

Please, I also need help..I am also looking for an apartment in either Astoria or Brooklyn..However, I don't know which zones are better in either area. How is Prospect Heights like? Is it safe? Also, in Astoria, what areas are considered the best?.
Additionally, a friend told me that when looking in brooklyn I should never look into anything beyond the Graham Stop of the L Train. is that true? What about for the M train?

What part of Virginia are you from? I'll tell you now I grew up in Virginia Beach and I initially moved from VA to Bedstuy. There are parts of Bedstuy that seem better than others. However, if you are from like Va Beach/Hampton roads I would say initially being in Bedstuy is not the best idea. I am originally from Brooklyn (bk born, va raised) and Bedstuy was not for me.
