Its very long - check on google maps. It goes through some extremely pricey and hip areas (such as Bedford and N. 7th) and some much more down and out areas.

Is Bed-Stuy a bad area? One of my classes is at night, so I'll be taking train kinda late.

Others can tell you more specifically, but Bed-Stuy in general is not the best area .....

Bed-Stuy is a huge neighborhood so there are many diff views on it. I grew up there before it became gentrified and in those days it was bad (not the worst in Brooklyn as most people think). http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&sa...-8&sa=N&tab=wl

There is tons of transportation around that area so you could easily live in New Jersey near the PATH train or Queens such as Astoria (NRW train is nearby your school) or Jackson Heights (take the E to 23rd and 8th or 34th and 8th).

Check Astoria first.

In Brooklyn you might look at Ditmas Park on the Q train such as near the Cortelyou Rd. stop. Ditmas Park still has relatively low rents and is pretty safe. Lots of Victorian houses and apartment bldgs. The Q is a good train - pretty fast - though Astoria would be faster for you I think.

Two sites to help you with commute times - the mta.info trip planner and hopstop.com
