I'm in Inwood on Sherman Avenue & Dyckman Street, known as "east of Broadway" where hardly white people roam...that is until quite recently. For the past year or so, I've seen "hipsters" move into my building...which is improving cause of the influx. Yet, I'm moving in a few weeks across town cause a single gal living on her own gets really expensive...

They are not alone. Many Puerto Ricans are moving out of the city too. The older folks are heading back to the island. The 20-somethings with college degrees are heading to nearby suburbs or surrounding states in order to bring up their children or to avoid the rising costs of living in the five boroughs.

Slightly off topic, but grab a John Sayles' indy movie called, "The Brother From Another Planet." Very good movie that has a hilarious sequence like you describe.

96th on the 2 = 86th on 4/5.

As regards this thread, bringing sports events in is cheating a little bit, since most of those people don't live anywhere in that neighborhood. The same goes for all the people who take the #7 to Shea when the Mets are at home. Not many of the white people on those trains live in Corona.

Sports is an unfair example, but that particular example isn't all that great either. Just pointing out, a lot of white people will get off at Main Street for either work, or to take a bus to one of the many neighborhoods that are serviced there. Sorry, I knew you meant well, but I couldn't let that pass by me.

Man,It really seems like the yuppies and and upper class that move into the boroughs are really killing the soul and character of New York. I'm cool with everybody. But this must be a damn shame to the tru New Yorkers who been there for a while. This is an unfortunate reality check.
