Did you see the news report about the Belmar Boycott? It seems that the Mayor of Belmar had some fairly disrespectful things to say about Staten Islanders (who make up a healthy percentage of the beach crowd in that town). In response, Staten Islanders organized a boycott of Belmar. Hit 'em in the wallet, and see how they like it.

Apparently, this effort has already had some effect; Belmar's Mayor has officially apologized to the borough of Staten Island, and admitted that he went too far in his original statements. (Of course, he made no such admission until the boycott started having an effect on his town's summer revenue--but better late than never!)

I hope any Staten Island participants to this forum will be glad to know that this Brooklynite supports your cause. And elects not to visit Belmar.

What if the Belmarians boycotted Staten Island? Could you imagine no one driving to Brooklyn via the Verazanno Narrows Bridge?

That would be funny...a boycott of Staten Island organized by Belmar! Of course, a town with just over 6,000 residents is going to have a hard time affecting the economy of a borough of New York City!

He was basically complaining about how meatheads from Staten Island trash his town every summer. More to the truth is that its guidos from New York AND New Jersey but I guess he figured it was more PC to badmouth a borough of NYC than a weird ethnic subculture.
