I'm looking at an apt on 106th and 2nd ave tonight and am wondering what people think of the neighborhood. I'm wondering if it's a safe neighborhood for a single asian female. Alternatively, what about Lenox Terrace on W. 135th street? Safer than the east side/about comparable? I've heard west side is pretty good as far as safety up to Wash Heights. I haven't lived in NYC since 2000 so, so obviously a lot has changed and any help is appreciated.

Unless you have a really good reason for the 106 Street location, I think you'd be better off on W. 135, too. And what's more, you'll be closer to transit there.

E 106th I would not recommend in your situation. It's not the nicest of areas and is very transitional, though I do think that they have stopped pelting cars driving on the avenue with bottles and/or rocks, which happened to me one dark and lonely night a couple of years back. And, as Fred314x pointed out, you are very far east, and transit options are a little more limited.
