Forest Hills for a 24 year old
So I'm looking to buy in the nyc area. I've been all over the place, I've kind of fallen in love with Forest Hills. The neighborhood is awesome, and its perfect for my commute. The 1bdrms I'm looking at are also falling right into my budget. So on that note, would I be bored here at a 24 year old single guy? Will this be boring for me? Will nyc be too much work? What do you think?

Hey, don't know if it's your kind of place. Heck, I'm twice your age, have been there a month, and I'm not sure the bars and restaurants work for me, though I like everything else about it.
But if you think you may like it, you can't lose. Prices will absolutely be lower everywhere in the city in 2009 and 2010, and by then you'll know how ya feel about it.

If you hang out in Manhattan for the nightlife, good luck getting Manhattan girls to come to Forest Hills. On the other hand, the girls in Queens seem friendlier and open. Know what I mean?

Can I borrow your crystal ball. I'd like to use it to pick stocks too. :-)
I think FH has a lot going for it. Easy commute to NYC and more active parts of queens like Jackson Heights, reasonable prices, quiet and safe. I can't answer whether you'd be bored or not, however.

Go to Astoria or maybe even Brooklyn for nightlife. Queens Boulevard does has an endless supply of bars, but no "scene", it's more appropriate for getting drunk with a bunch of friends or wallowing in your lonely misery than for meeting people. I actually like it because you can easily hail cabs to bar hop, but the bars kind of suck in of themselves.
