Any one else read this article out of the Wall Street Journal about whites moving into New York City?

The End of White Flight - WSJ.com

What do you think?

Is it true?

If so, in what neighborhoods?

Williamsburg, Bushwick, Harlem, Park Slope, Long Island City, and any other area that is being "gentified"

Hard to believe that Bushwick is really gentrifying.

Where are new people moving in - what general parts?

Where are the long term residents of Bushwick going?

Same goes for the other neighborhoods mentioned. Are African-Americans and Hispanics leaving the city for the suburbs?

Are African-Americans from NYC moving to the South to places such as Atlanta, Charlotte, and northern Virginia?

Bushwick still has too many crime problems. Check out this blog every week or so for what's going on in Bushwick:

General Board

Two current threads related to crime

Gunshots

Morgan Robbery

Bushwick has always been a rough area. There are a lot of PJ's in BUshwick and the surrounding areas. Now that people with jobs and money have moved in, the criminal element has a whole new group of victims to steal from. Sad, but true.

I still don't see why anyone should be surprised if any neighborhood in this city happens to be changing. It's been happening since the day this city was founded (the Dutch moved into what had been an exclusively Native American neighborhood).

Is it really such a big deal if whites are moving into Bushwick? That part of Brooklyn was white long before it was ever black or Hispanic. The Town of Bushwick was founded by the Dutch (Peter Stuyvesant himself named it!) Later it was German, and after that, Italian. So if you want to be accurate, whites are coming back, not moving in.

Yes, white people from Ohio or the West Coast are moving in.

We are invading the hoods in Brooklyn.

LOL!!

A little early in the cycle, no? Too many original whites in the neighborhood didn't even get the chance to flee yet!

Money is GREEN. That's all that matters. The GREENER one is, the more freedom of movement one has. In terms of New York City, the article has no meaning: there are "Irish" neighborhoods vs. "Italian" neighborhoods, etc. still going strong. There are so many shades of "white" that the demographic could be broken down with a microscope. And "Hispanic" - forget it... "Black" - depends what that means? West Indian (whoa! that's a big tent!) vs. African (another gigantic tent) vs. Americans who have been in this country since before it was founded - and I think (with little evidence) that there are more of those families here than there are old Dutch or English families.

Point: New York City is a melting pot of melting pots. That's what you come here for.
