Lol...it is funny if it weren't so scary. It should be noted that although this cop is a rookie..he is a 3rd generation cop...and his Father is a "highly respected" officer, who, after learning about the tape and the lies in the court papers from his son was quoted as saying "I don't care" and "you gotta do what you gotta do." This is not just a rookie cop making a mistake..it is in fact a learned behavior..and represents the "cover your a$$ at all costs" and "do whatever you gotta do" culture of brutality and corruption of the NYPD.

It is a shame..it is 2008 and we are still dealing with this kind of abhorrent behavior. Yes the guy will be out of a job and there will be lawsuits...but the perverse and sick culture does not change in the NYPD. What's worse is wondering what are these cops doing when there are no cameras/witnesses around? Scary.

Nonetheless, NYC is not a hell hole..I like to believe that this behavior is a minority of the police force..as there are bad apples in every bunch. I do think the culture is bad and unfortunately encourages/supports this kind of behavior. Instead of the other cops pulling him to the side, and helping the biker after this attack...they just went along with it, trumped up the charges...and said nothing. Why are they also getting off without punishment?

I thought it was hilarious as well. Hey now lets not try to paint the "critical mass cyclist" as a saint. These "cyclists" are nothing more than domestic terrorists. If they tried to do this in certain countries they would get a severe beating at the very least.

You guys did know that these cyclists once blocked an ambulance while it was en route to an emergency. Isn't that a crime?

Great! Why don't you move to one of those? Last time I checked, this is America, and riding your bike isn't a crime. If peaceful protest/civil disobedience was illegal in this country, it would be a very different place.

Oh, word? Was that guy in the video involved? If that did in fact happen, it was the actions of a few idiots. I'm certain there was no Critical Mass ordinance that said "block ambulances".

riding a bike is not a crime, but what many persons involved in critical mass does is a crime. These people want to make bikers rights aware to the public by breaking the law. When ever I come across critical mass rides, they take up the whole street, not allowing other traffic to pass. In NYS, bike riders must ride single file when cars are passing. They also spit and yell at cars trying to pass.
Critical mass gives honest cyclists like me and many others a bad name.

I always love it when a one-off incident like this gets a ton of media play, yet when a cop helps someone out, or catches a serious criminal, or gets shot, nary a peep.
