How is IT job market in NYC, specifically Java, for someone with many years of experience(but no finance experience)? Shall appreciate any response.

Sheeeet, man, most IT jobs are financial java jobs. There are a lot of entry positions out there to get your foot in the door. Even those pay $75,000-$80,000 when you start. Talk to a recruiter, or something.

I have to disclaim that I never worked in finances (a lot of stress and pressure to deliver yesterday), and the market is not as good as it used to be. The times just before the recent downturn were some of the best to look for a gig.
