This nation ain't so great only in your eyes. America still is the best country in the world no matter how much some people like to bash it. It's not perfect, but still the best compare to other countries. You are right that new immigrants isn't immigrating to NYC to hangout in bars, they just here to seek a better life for themselves and their children, which is the same thing as the old immigrants.

What you said about new immigrants won't be here for long is pure BS. The only ones who won't stay long are the illegal immigrants, and it's not that they don't want to stay, it's because they can't stay, their family still in another country. If giving a chance to have their family here, you think they will still go back?

I by no means hate the country, but I hate a lot of the recent trends. I'm against the wars, the allowing of millions of illegal immigrants into the country, the promotion of liberalism, political correctness, the greed, and few other things. The new immigrants are not going to leave their mark on NYC like the blacks, Italians, Irish, Puerto Ricans, and Jews did in the past. The new immigrants will make their money and move to a new neighborhood or city in a short period of time. They are only loyal to the dollar, not the neighborhood, city, or country. That is just the face of immigration in the 21st century all over the world, it nearly 100% economic driven, it has little to do with anything else.

Two kids growing up in NYC today from vastly different backgrounds are not going to have the kind of bond they would get if they were from a similar background. They don't share the same important identifying aspects of culture. A black American kid in Brooklyn isn't going to connect strongly with a kid who is the son of Arab or Chinese immigrants, like he would another black. There isn't going to be sleep overs, vacations together, wedding invites, etc.

Young Herman, every post of yours on this thread is just so head-smackingly... retrograde. You are a RL shout-radio fan, yes?

You have found one study to bolster your argument. That biased circular logic is exactly the segregationist thinking that predated Brown vs. Board of Education.

Look -- where did you go to college (DID you go to college?)? Somehow you missed the experience of living in extremely close quarters with people of vastly different cultures, customs and ethnicities in a college dorm. This experiment in living results in life-long friendships between all sorts of Americans and people from other cultures, and everyone is very comfortable with each other. Because you seem to believe otherwise indicates how YOU personally feel and does not reflect the experience of multi-cultural America at large.

This is an example of a wildly speculative statement:

"An Arab or Chinese person isn't immigrating to NYC to hangout in bars or go to "gay pride" parades.
"

Really? How do you know? How many "Arab or Chinese" persons have you interviewed to discover their reasons for "immigrating to NYC"? How do you know that any given "Arab or Chinese person" DIDN'T actually move to NYC to go to ""gay pride" parades"? (homosexuality being a taboo punishable by death in some Arabic cultures)

This is just....psh:

Young Herman:
"A black American kid in Brooklyn isn't going to connect strongly with a kid who is the son of Arab or Chinese immigrants, like he would another black. There isn't going to be sleep overs, vacations together, wedding invites, etc. "

Well boo hoo for you if you weren't invited to sleep-overs, vacations or weddings that included anyone of another race or culture. But I can assure you that you were singularly excluded (hmm, I wonder why?). How sad.

Your statements are insulting my family, which happily includes Asian, African-American and Hispanic members among my close relatives, and I am as white as it gets, to the point of translucence. We don't see a problem, why do you?

If you are contemplating Whitestone, you better own a car, as it is a long way from any subway line.
