My friend signed contracts with Subah Construction to renovate kitchen, bathroom, and wooden floor on 3 consecutive days. My friend gave total 11,560 as deposits. My friend then decided to cancel within 1 hr of signing the last contract for the bathroom/kitchen marble upgrade. Subah Construction refused to return that check for 5,500. My friend decided to cancel the full project. Now he has 11,560 in his bank. My friend has not been able to get him to return the total deposit 11,560. My friend went to the his company address listed on the contract and website and found out that it's no longer at that location. My friend tried to check if he's license in order to work in the building and did not find it. He refused to return phone calls or emails. How could my friend get the deposit $11,560 back?

Thank you.

file a civil court case, if they dont show up to court your friend will win on default then he can get a marshal to seize whatever's in their bond.

I'm also looking for an attorney. But it's very expensive. There won't be much left after the case is done. I'm not sure how effective the process is to go through the Department of Consumer Affairs or the [FONT=Arial]New York State Office of the Attorney General. It seems to take a long time. Has anyone go through these offices before?
