Hi All:

I'm new to this website! Just checking to see if anyone out there works in Urban Planning and what their opinions are about it.... Also, which school did you attend? Know anything about Hunter?
Are you generally satisfied with the field? With day to day responsibilities?

Thanks!

I have a friend who works as an urban planner for the Brooklyn Borough President's office. He seems to enjoy it but I think he doesn't like all the crazy people complaining about odds and ends.

I do a bit of planning related stuff for my job but I'm really more of a policy person. Sometimes I wish I was a planner though, I feel like the job market's better for that stuff!

Urban planning it a broader field than urban design but they overlap a lot. They can be two separate degree's though, so the OP should decided what kind of career he wants. A lot of Urban Design is done by Landscape Architects/Urban Designers, and the curriculum involves some classes similar to urban planning but then also a lot of design and studio classes where as an urban planning curriculum is heavier on the polices, planning, transportation, communities, land planning etc.
