We have clean streets; you guys have dirty streets with garbage bags on the corners. Chicago has gorgeous Michigan Avenue, lake michigan, lakeshore drive. And areas like river north, streeterville, and gold coast, are full of beautiful townhomes and luxury condos. I mean for christ's sake, manhattan has housing projects in chelsea and lincoln center! LOL!

You're obviously not very well-travelled. Come visit Chicago and experience the city and nightlife, and you'll know what I'm talking about.
As if the notorious Cabrini Green projects (yes i know its been mostly torn down as of recently) isnt just stone-throw away from Gold Coast, give it a break man. Chicago people always has NY on their mind, that 2nd place status just stings them to their heart lol. How the hell are you going to capture the New York nightlife in a couple of visits? Impossible because the amount of spots covering the 5 boroughs both obvious and the ones you have to be in the 'know' would require you to actually live out here to even make a real attempt. I also notice you seem to leave out those BIG areas of blighted run down ghettos that take up most of your West Side, a good portion of your South Side and pockets of your North Side. There's nothing 'clean' or attractive about running into some GD's, VL's, Latin Kings, etc... We have 'luxury condos' in Harlem and original brownstones in Bed-Stuy, check it out homie.

How silly. The original poster was right that New York IS smelly and dirty and full of garbage! All he was saying was that he was shocked at the state of things, right? What's wrong with that? I am too! I live in NY, and I don't see why all the New Yorkers can possibly take offense/argue that New york's pretty gross/dirty/smelly because it's true!

As someone who was born and raised in nyc but lives in houston now, I will like to chime in the fact that Houston has hotter women than nyc.

You guys can go back to your arguing now, by the way there is a reason that Chicago is referred to the second city, but lets not kid ourselves when people talk about NYC they only refer to Manhattan but if we were to take NYC as a whole (brooklyn, bronx, etc etc) then I can see how NYC can be a dirty place.

I tell you what though, when i get off the plane either at laguardia or jfk, i say to my wife dont you love that smell. It gets better when we go to ENY. I love it.

When people talk about downtown Chicago, they are only refer to more touristy areas like Michigan Avenue.

When people talk about Los Angeles, they only refer to the Westside of Los Angeles (i.e. Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Westwood, Brentwood and so on)

When people talk about Miami, they only refer to South Beach areas.

When people talk about London, they only refer to areas such as Westminster.

When people talk about Paris, they only refer to, I don't know, the 5-10th Arrondissements or Central Paris.

Don't you live in Houston? When people talk about that Godforsaken hell hole (if that ever happens) people usually refer to the that tiny Galleria/Uptown or River Oaks area, ONLY.

Do you understand now? Why should NYC be the only city where we have to where the slums in Bronx HAVE to be lumped in with glamorous Manhattan when making arguments?

First off as an x-men im offended. There are no SLUMS in the bronx so what are you talking about. If anything all those places have ghettos way worse than anything you see in nyc. New york is the safest big city in the US. Out of towners dont know where manhattan begins or where it ends. Theres things thats considered apart of the "new york experiance" thats in the outer boroughs. They all think its in one area. And if your a real new yorker u would know that not all of manhattan is glamorous. And U dont have to go above 110st to see that either

I wouldnt go as far as saying there are no slums in the Bronx, they're just not as bombed out or as dangerous as they once were.

On a warm sunny day you might actually find more flavor and excitement right in the NY hood (boroughs and all). Personally I love some of the NY ghettos. Sorry if Bungalow 8 and Tenjune are not my style LOL. I definitely dont want to run into Paris Hilton when I'm out (though I did actually go to Bungalow years ago and got absolutely twisted in some VIP area).

Godforasaken hell hole?? Have you ever been??

NYC is a great city to live but to say there arent other cities out there that are good your kidding yourself.

When people refer to Houston, most of the time they refer to the inner loop, dont be fooled Houston is working its way up.
