hi a quick question, and I'm not sure if this is an NYC specific one or not, but if i were to sublet my current apartment to a tenant, am i allowed to keep utility bills (under my name), rather than cancel them and have the new tenant put it under his/her name?

so say for things like con edison or a cable bill, etc since i technically own the apartment still, can the person just pay the bill on my behalf (legally) or do we need to change the "ownership" of the utilities to have their name on the bill?

i've been a little confused and haven't gotten any useful info from con edison, etc that answers this completely.

thanks!

You probably can keep the utilities in your name and have someone else (the tenant) pay them. However, you are risking default on their part and bad credit.
