Excluding rent and utility bills, can you please give me a rough idea of how much I will need to get by on living in Manhattan for 1 month.

I probably plan on going to the cinema once a fortnight and maybe to a club 4 times in the month.

Also how much will food set me back, maybe planning on eating out once or twice in a restaurant but will get my own groceries.

I hope this is enough information, thanks in advance.

I would say the min. to live comfortably and not worry about money. $1500 -2k per month. (If you are here for a short amount of time) If you plan to stay here longer and be a penny pincher, you can get by on 1k

This is a difficult question to answer. It depends on where you go out to eat. You can get a meal for 10 bucks and you can go to a nice restaurant and spend more than a 100 bucks. So it depends on yourself, can you eat at a cheap restaurant? Show tickets are usually more than a 100 dollars for broadway but you can go off broadway and get tickets for 50 dollars. The question is how much can you afford and then the answers that we can give you will help you to determine if this will work for you. So my question to you is what is the amount you can spend in a month?

oh i am sorry you want to go to a movie, not a broadway show. Movies run about 12 dollars to get in.

Seriously 1500 -2k ... movies are 12 dollars, getting into a club? You are going to spend around 100-200 including drinks (unless you go crazy) Food. You can live off 800 to 1k per month. If you don't pay attention for 1 person. so maybe 1500-2500 unless you splurge on clothes and Broadway shows.

Personally I go to shows, pay for food, and buy clothes in Manhattan and the most I have spent here was 1200 per month. Last month I decided to save and my bills came to 800 excluding rent!

Excluding rent/utilities, bring about 2K..... aside from movies, nightclubs, and restaurants, you'll probably want to do a bit of shopping as well.

And if you decide to go to a Broadway show, you can always get discounted tickets at:

www.broadwaybox.com
www.playbill.com
www.theatermania.com

I just got tickets to Guys & Dolls (a brand new show) for 45% off.

For a differing point of view - I think you can get by for markedly less than the $2000 that people are saying, but it's totally dependent on your tastes, and how prudent a shopper you are. I know someone who is spending probably at least five times as much as I do on groceries because she goes to one of the most expensive places in town, and I go to the cheapest. Similarly, if you explore the fabulous cheap restaurants that NYC has, you'll spend much less than if you go to famous, trendy ones.
