Change people's minds? Half these people who posted haven't even been anywhere else. I aint trying to change anything. Best city in the U.S.? We must be talking about Mannhattan again. I give Mannhattan its props, it is like nowhere else in this country. Nowhere else has that kind of energy or excitement. But how many tourists fly half way around the world, to hang in QUEENS? Look at Shea stadium. U think they could've built the neighborhood up around it? People actually tailgate under the Northern Boulavard overpass there. It's actually funny to see. No, cause it aint Mannhattan, so the city firgures, THE H..L with it. I've spent enough time here now, that Queens actually does feel like it's own city. I feel there's a disconnect between Mannhattan. And if Queens has to stand on it's own 2 feet, a city with a population of over 2.2 million, Id rather be in boring Philly.

And how many people fly halfway around the world to go to the residential districts of Chicago? I don't understand what point you're trying to make here.

So everybody needs to include the outer boroughs a lot more when commenting on NYC. Mannhattan really is just the downtown area of NYC. That's the simplest way to describe it.

ok so i went back and read another one of your posts.....

so i ask you again, what was the point of this whole thread?
as a forum, we don't like when somebody voices their dislikes for nyc.
do you honestly expect positive responses from starting a thread like this?
i am unsure of how you want us new yorkers to respond. oh, i know how...
PITTSBURGH and CHICAGO are great....u happy now?

I have been to many cities in the USA, Canada and Europe welder, even to Chicago twice, just for your information. But I still come back and feel like home in NYC. Oh and for me, Queens is definitely twice much better than Philly. I should know since I have experience both. Queens have so many unique, interesting and safer neighborhoods. Oh and better ethnic food.
Welder give it up and be happy elsewhere, why do we need to hear your dislike of the big city so much.

Welder, one of your earlier posts was brilliant but you just lost points with me for knocking the outer boroughs and Queens specifically. Each borough of our great city has its own beauty and uniqueness.
But hey to each his own. You're entitled, but I wanted to add my two cents.

The point is, people from Chicago dont dwell on their downtown like everybody does with Mannhattan. Mannhattan is 24 sq miles. Everthing here revolves around Mannhattan (or should I say, THE CITY). Every time one of u guys compare something or to somewhere else. And far as the food goes? WHAAAAAAAAT? You almost have to go into different neighborhoods to get a different dish. Queens, may be diverse, but the neighborhoods are way to lobsided with one ethnic group. If u like Chinese, by all means come to Flushing. If u want something else, good luck. Enough about Chicago too. My hometown in PITTSBURGH, Pa. I stuck up for Chi cause alot of people posted alot of crap that aint true. But NYC is PERFECT. So nobody can critize it, even if there doing it in a polite constructive manner. People are people the world over. Alot of u guys talk about culture this and culture that. I know different. People who have exciting lives, especially when in a city like NYC, they aint wasting it on a travel forum. If u live here, live here then, quit wasting your time on a forum about the city u already live in. Cause I know most of u will never leave. I think alot of people who rave about NYC culture, etc., and aint from here, watch one too many episodes of Sex in the City. And maybe u want your friends or family from back home to think that's your lifestlye here. I know different. My life is on hold at the moment. But if I was plan on making this my permanent residence, I wouldnt waste a second typing a post here. I'd be out living it! Is Broadway shut down tonight? No art gallaries open? Please, CULTURE LOL LOL LOL. Admit it, hot wings, Corona's, and a STEELER GAME, that's the true culture u DESIRE!

Don't knock Queens. It has some of the best ethnic food in the city!! Maybe people don't come here to see Queens, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have a lot to offer for people who live here. There is a lot to do and see. I'd rather be in Queens. :-) To each his own. It's all about preferences. If we all liked the same thing, it'd be pretty boring.

I don't understand how he's praising other cities for having a strong working class culture and then knocking the working class areas of our city, that's where he loses me. Queens happens to be one of the most culturally diverse places in the world, which gives it a uniqueness you probably won't find in Pittsburgh, but that doesn't make it any less working class because one guy chills in his house with a hookah after work or drinks sake instead of Bud Light, or plays cricket instead of football.

Miles, me knocking Queens? I got into an arguement last summer with a guy who swore up and down, that queens was not part of NYC! I think the people who live in Mannhattan, and thumb their noses out the outer bouroughs are to blame. I'm sorry that the outer boroughs dont impress me. There are some pockets of queens that has some real nice houses. Actually look like a subburban setting. But so what. queens to me is nothing exciting. When i was 22 it did, but not now. Seen waaaay to much over the last 13 yrs to compare it too.
