Seems like lots of people in Pittsburgh don't find that city excited neither...

Pittsburgh still losing population

But Queens still growing with population. Even if some people come for Manhattan and have to settle in Queens, then why stay if is not Manhattan? Because Queens still a good place to be and people like it. I am sure if the borough was like Staten Island, then people will think is kind of boring and move to some other city instead. I would.

Andysocks, working class? Since when did I put down queens for being working class? Have you ever been in Flushing? If so, what good Italian restaurants did u eat at? Pizza joint on Main Street, ya, i know. How about maybe being TRULY diverse here, any have maybe some other races move in. Have some other restaurants besides Chinese (or ANY KIND OF ASIAN). Would it kill a few of them to set up shop in Corona Maybe? Let some other kind of food places to exist.

Us born and bred new yorkers do not dwell on manhattan. the people that dont live here are the ones that do this.

umm ok...let me guess, you want to see maybe an italian restaurant in chinatown perhaps? or thai food in little italy? these are what these neighborhoods are known for...i'm really trying to understand your logic. patience is a virtue.

So the fact that the place has the most langauges and nationalities of any county in the US does not make it diverse because, as has happened in American cities since the beginning of immigration, people have settled in enclaves?

It is good enough for me that I can get authentic Chinese in Flushing and authentic Indian in Jackson Heights and something else two stops away. I don't need them to mix and match so that every neighborhood has everything within it.

There are still plenty of Italians in Flushing, just not the area near Main St. as much.

I hear what you're saying about the outer boroughs not necessarily being the be-all and end-all, and there are plenty of other places that are nice as well. But to a lot of people they are not only home, but have a real, native New York vibe that you don't get in those other places. Some people don't care about that, others do. If you don't then so be it. But you do invite disagreement when you start a thread saying that "NYer's need to get a grip!" Guess what, if people live in the outer boroughs and love it there, that's their business and maybe it's not them who needs to get a grip.

Nowhere is PERFECT! NOOOOOWHERE! U think my hometown of Pittsburgh dont have its share of problems. You can rag all over it. To a point. U start telling me things that I know aint true, Ill defend it. But I aint all sensitive about it. In fact look up the history of Pittsburgh. Alot of u guys will be surprised of the importance the city once held. It was also first in alot of things that would have never guessed.

Nothing is outlawed. Settlement patterns happen how they happen as a result of private choices, and there's nothing new about it. There are plenty of areas, other than Flushing Main St, that have a wide array of restaurants rather than one ethnic cuisine dominating. Bay Ridge is a prime example. Baked ziti, wedding soup, Greek, Chinese, Mexican, Middle Eastern, whatever, they've got it.
