This really is a lose lose situation. You could tell me its cold out, and I could tell u its brisk out. We will never convince each other. This post get too long and people dont read all the post. I starting getting really negative here with my post. It wasnt my intention. My headline could've been worded better. But, I firgured it would be an attention grabber. My whole purpose was to defend some of the untrue statements about Chicago or other places that I've read on here. I will say this, alot of the white people I've talked to in the bars around here (the few that there are) seemed bitter about how Flushing has changed. I wasnt here way back then, so I don't know. But I honestly aint making that up. I even told my old man about it awhile back. And just so u know, yesterday, I posted on the Chicago forum. Or maybe it was on the NYC forum. Anyways under the Chicagofinance guy. And told him what parts of Chicago i thought were nice, and what parts weren't. Also I disagreed with the comment that the woman are hotter there. Common sense would tell u that LA and NYC are magnets for aspiring models, not Chicago. And I'm sure the nightclubs here would blow anything Chicago has away. U aint going to see any Celebs hanging in Chicago nightclubs, that's for sure.

Default sorry I was gone for a while, guys...

just went out to enjoy some NYC culture. Went to see an off-Broadway play. Very interesting play in the East Village entitled, "So what if I'm a rambler?"

I highly recommend it . It's sort of a soliloquy, a monologue by this character who moves around the country in search of that pot of gold. He moves from town to town and can't find the answer to the frustrations he's experiencing. So he knocks each place he makes his temporary abode. The people have no culture. The food isn't great. Everything sucks. My last big city was much better. My ship isn't coming in.

So he blames it all on the physical environment in which he finds himself - the people are fake, the food is lousy, my friend has to bartend since he's aloser. To this guy the whole world sucks, everyone is a loser.

If this all sounds depressing for the poor guy - there's hope for him. One day he rambles right back to his coal mining or steel town, comes to terms with himself, and finally realizes that no, it's not the world that sucks, it's....well, let's leave it at that.

He does get back on track and has learned that if you look at life through the right lens, no man or woman need ever be a loser.

East Village? I thought u were a MARY Miles! Ur right everything sucks. Bartender friend a loser? Aint no friend. And he aint no loser. I guess this is the name of the game here. Twist and distort everything someone post. This will be my last response no matter what u or anyone else post. It's a Friday night, after 9, and your still on the computer. Move over P-Diddy, make room for Miles! He's looking to set the Village on Fire! As far as that guy bartending? I posted that to show ,even with a 50 grand yr job, and being single, and living in Queens mind u, that kinda of $ aint nothing in this city! Even in queens! Loser? Guys working 2 jobs! My hat goes off to him! But the statement he said about the $ being here. That's the common theme among alot of ny'ers. It's true there's alot here. But getting your hands on it is another thing. Dream all u want, that's what makes life bearable at times. But alot of just get a little wiff, and if we're real lucky, a taste. That's all I have to say. Ill never post here again. I just signed up yesterday anyway. One thing I did learn about NY'ers, they're very narrow minded. Total tunnel vision. ......

P.S. had to post this Miles. U said " I move from town to town in search of my pot of gold"? My man, alot of my travels involved me making money. Good money at that. So, in a sense, I guess u could say that I found my pot of GOLD in every town I was in!

Welder, please don't take things that way. You're welcome on the forum anytime. You must understand that our reaction is typical of any city forum when residents speak up in defence of their city where they live, love, and work.

The play I saw was just a breather from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the heated debates of the forum, the need to unwind. There was no ill-will on my part going to see that play. I'm a writer also so I needed a creative outlet. Our moderator won't allow any poster to chase another poster off - and besides it's downright un-neighborly and uncharcteristic of New Yorkers to do that.

I'm sure you're a success in what you do. Please excuse us for defending our great city.

Have a good night and see you later.

Alright Miles, apology accepted. U damn educated people and your MENTAL JUDO! I just went off on rant defending San Fran. Everybody here kept thinking I was playing the Chicago to NYC card. I wasnt. There's someone who said that San Fran is farm like. Anyone who has been to the bay area knows that aint true. They need to take a driving trip across country and see what REAL barron land looks like. No city is perfect. Alot of people who post here are full of false pride. They wont admit any flaws about this place. But everywhere else is one big flaw. Alot of cities in this country, have atleast one or 2 neighborhoods that are similiar to NYC. Some people act like the rest of the country comes home after work, and just sits in a chair watching paint dry.

FOR REAL dude. You couldn't have said it better. I think almost everything you have said thusfar has been pretty fair and non-biased.

That's true, and I find that some of the worst offenders on the false pride part are provincial people from outside NY who relocate and are filled with such disdain for everywhere else that they have lived that they have to perpetuate the hype. Those, and there are some who are just waiting to drag you under a bridge, metaphorically speaking, and argue all night long, but the majority of defenders of New York who post here and make coherent arguments and statements do not fall into that category.

However, natives will defend New York, although I know people who have left NY and are perfectly happy and it wasn't leaving for affordability either, it was a lifestyle choice. And, that's what's great about this country, that we have so many places for people to find the place for them, be it New York City or Santa Fe or Boston, wherever...there's someplace for everyone.

Affordability and lifestye? They can blur together. Unless u mean a beach lifestyle, hiking, living in the mountians, etc. I find that having less $ can change a persons lifestyle. U went negative on me. I aint going to do the same. I got carried away earlier tonight with alot of my posts. Im not relocated here either. Just passing thru (probably like Brett Farve, although leaving with alot less $ than him).

No negativity intended, sorry if I offended somehow. Yes, I meant a better lifestyle for what they wanted. I am talking about natives, however, who decided that they did not want to put up with the New York grind anymore and found a happy balance between the two. It wasn't a question that they could not live in NY, it was a decision not to do so. And, I was referencing my own experiences, certainly not taking the tack about socioeconomic levels.
