NY'ers need to get a grip!
I've travelled all over the U.S.. 47 states, every major city, and every strech of interstate from begining to end! Most states, half a dozen times. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh. Lived in Chicago off an on since 99'. Lived in Philly for awhile too. NYC is OVER RATED! I'm been here quite a few times since my early 20's. I was way more impressed with it back then, compared to now that I'm my mid 30's. Spent 4 months here last yr. And 2 months so far this yr. Now, that being said, if you got some BIG job here, I can see your point of view. But most working stiffs can't afford, or could less about broadway, and all the other culture stuff. Maybe all of you people are at broadway plays, the opera, musuems, etc. night and day. There again, if you do, I can see your point of view. But what percentage of the average nyc working stiff does any of that ,on any kind regular basis? Not only because of the cost, just because they don't have any interest in it! I'm a blue collar guy. I work construction ( union BOILERMAKER ). Now believe me, I do ok for a blue collar worker. And my scale is higher in nyc than elsewhere. But look what is cost to rent a crappy apt. And forget about buying one here! The average ny'er would love Chicago over NYC if they seen the neighborhoods and the rent prices! $800 a month for a nice 1 bedroom, walk to the lake and beaches. I also make pretty good buc working in Chicago too. And the dollar goes way further! If you were born here that's different. Or the job thing. I thought the Pittsburgh'ers were sensitive! Get a grip !The quality of daily life in Chicago is way better! There's no contest. 100 grand a yr in nyc, is like 40 anywhere else. What gets me is how many people here are impressed with 50 or 60 grand a yr jobs (outer boroughs of course). They're bragging to me about it, then they walk into their beat up apts, who they share with mommy and daddy. And there 30! I don't get ALL the HYPE! Neither should you!

You need to calm down.
I am 100% aware, as are many other NYers who have managed to leave haha, that what there is to be found in Brooklyn can be found in Philly, what can be found in Queens can be found in Toronto, etc. But I grew up here, it's home, and I plan to stay. It has nothing to do with impressing you or any other disappointed transplants.

I'm just trying to stick up for a few other posters who got bashed when they mentioned Chicago or anywhere else other than nyc. Home is home. Like I said, if you were born and raised here, that's a different animal all together.

Those people get bashed because they decide to not just mention their city, but BASH ours. If you want to advocate for another city, great, don't just trample on ours.
I love Chicago, maybe even better than NYC, but I can't tolerate people who think they're superior because they live in another city. We're all humans living on the same earth; what's the problem here??

I also like to live where my family is so hopefully you dont mind that. My baby enjoys all the free parks and walking around outside. I love New Yorkers attitudes, styles, and accents. I also have a great job that I would never find again anywhere, making great full-time money working 4 days a week (and sometimes 3). Once this gig is over..oh geesh.
What I'm wondering is why someone from Chicago cares one way or the other whether New Yorkers like it here or not. I mean I'm a blunt person, but I really couldn't imagine insulting people and bashing a place where others live. I just dont see the point. Let people like what they want, and you do the same. Cool?

Chicago is a great city, but this anger/insecurity/inferiority complex is getting a little ridiculous. I know I'm generalizing here, but in my last visit to Chicago, i was hanging with my good buddy and his friends. and they were just trashing NYC, saying how they could never live there and asking me how i can handle living in such a "dirty, hectic place with rude people." i just laughed it off, but the interaction was quite telling on a number of levels.

I'm not the Chicagofinance guy. I really am a construction worker. I'm from Pittsburgh, not Chicago. I've lived in Chicago off an on since 99' like I said in my original post. I even root against the Bears! I have no loyality to either cities. I ain't saying Chicago is some kind of paradise by any means. Nowhere ever is. But, I've been all over this country of ours. And you won't get more bang for your buc, then you will in Chicago. I'm talking about the average working stiff and proffessionals. Especially the working stiffs. I've lived on the west side of Chicago at my gf's apt. The Austin neighborhood. And ya, it's bad, real bad. The reason I posted in the first place was, everytime someone even questions nyc, the get bombbarded with all kinds of nasty responses. And I don't care what anyone thinks, the outerboroughs are pretty lame as a whole. There may be pockets, which have fun bars, etc., but as a whole, they suck in my eyes.

I just read what you said quelinda. Parks? Are you kidding me? You have never been to Chicago if you are comparing the parks here to there! Chicago has got got 18 miles of paved park and beaches! Not to mention all the parks throughout the city.
