I personally like Philly a lot. I think it has great history. It has a lot of great things to do the yokels dont even know about.
Im just saying, in terms of 2008, when I have visited there it seems like people are more concerned with the Eagles more than anything else. They DEFINITELY HAVE THE CITY, the downtown beauty, the space and infrastructure to bring new companies out of crowded (and possibly terrorist threatened areas like NY). They can build skycrapers downtown and have plenty of room in the suburbs to fit thousands of extra people without yuppifying decent working class neighborhoods. But they havent done it. More money rolls through Fairfield County companies than the whole Philly Metro. Must be bad prioritization.
There are tons of people that need help in that city (not gentrification, but actual HELP), and they dont get help because places Kensington and Strawberry Mansion arent glorified names associated with struggle like Bed Stuy and the South BX. Crime is brutal in Philadelphia. Much of the city is neglected and that starts from people who live there and dont do anything to help a fellow resident in need.
People in the Philly suburbs are much more racist, almost Southern USA style racism. They all live in their little circles, with their meaningless office jobs, playing golf, hating NY for no reason. They are extremely smug and unfriendly. Yuengling is the best beer, they are the best fans in the USA, and there is no need to visit cities other than Philly. Thats what they will tell you, and they dont want to hear otherwise.
Maybe Im wrong, but this is my perception when I have visited. I try to visit and learn about as many places as possible.

I know people in Stamford and they make a nice living without having to do ridiculous Manhattan commutes and powerwalking through thousands of people to catch train/subway #3 of their commute.
So keep LOLing

I agree with the racist comment. They remind me of Pittsburgh'ers. I heard the 'N WORD" used alot when I was there. I said it felt like living in a bigger more expensive version of Pittsburgh. In fact I probably agree with everything u just wrote. I never said NYC wasnt rich in its own history. But Philly doesnt have to bow down to NYC or any other cities in terms of history or their contributions to America. Read where I first started posting on this thread. I dont know how I ended up defending Philly. LOL I guess I just like given ALL cities their props when deserved.

And I know there's a few people who live in Philly and make a nice buc there too. And I KNOW they aint worried about the #3 train. Comparing Stamford to Philly or saying that it had more going on i thought was funny. Along with a couple other cities u listed.

I lived around the corner from Bloomfield, in friendship at Aiken and Centre. I remember seeing that drugstore in Bloomfield in that movie along with many other sites. Pittsburgh is not a lot like Philly however. As far as the size of downtown yeah, and there are some rowhouses on the southside but besides that not really. Philly is much more violent and the Eagle fans are obnoxious and annoying. And whoever said that Philly was nothing like NYC, well they are right. Philly is not even really like Chicago. They just haven't done much with there downtown through the years.

The City of Philadlephia absolutely would love to steal some commerce from NJ/NYC, no question about it. Center City has improved enough where its not out of the question. 15-20 years ago companies from NYC would have scoffed at the notion of moving to Philadlephia but Center City/University City are becoming a very interesting place with a very bright outlook.I think its good for the east coast to have Center City Philly becoming one of the nations premiere destinations.Which it will be in 10 years.
The Philly suburbs want no parts of rapid growth and the wealthier counties do everything in their power to prevent it. They are perfectly content with their bio-pharma nucleus, uncrowded high scoring schools and no crime. They are not looking for an infusion of anyone.
As far as Fairfield County alone taking in more money than metro Philly? Come on now lets not get carried away here. Metro Philadlephia has the 8th or 9th largest economy in the world.
Fairfield County CT.
800,000 people
$80,000 per capita household income
Chester County Pa.
500,000 people
$83,146 per capita income
Montgomery County pa.
800,000 people
$74,000 per capita income
Bucks County Pa
600,000
$71,000 per capita income
The western 2/3 of Delaware County
400,000
$85,000 per capita income
Then in south jersey Burlington,Gloucester are another 1,000,000 people making close to the same money that Fairfield Co. does.
Wilmington De.(New castle Co.) another area of close to a million people doing very well.
Some neighborhoods of Philly are struggling mightily. Center City is prospering, the vast majority of the suburbs are prospering. Add it all up and maybe 10% of the people in the Philly area are not living well. Its not that bad, really.

Not doing much? They've built 12,000 new condo rooms in the past 10 years through new construction and renovating historic buildings.Might be a pittance compared to NYC but for a normal downtown thats pretty damn impressive. There is currently about $5 billion dollars of construction going on in Center City and another $5 B of construction going on in University City. There is all kinds of good stuff going on in the Center City/Univ City hoods.
Its the inner city neighborhoods, specifically N Philly and SW Philly, where you just kind of throw up your hands and say this is a lost cause, these neighborhoods are hopeless. They are without hope.
