I would love to know how you get an apartment in Electchester. I have been on the waiting list more than 13 years. I personally know of several people who were given an apartment only after waiting less than 2 months . If someone can offer me any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. I heard you have to pay someone off, who is this person?, I would like to know

i lived there for 5 years, still the best deal in the 5 boroughs. Lots of bs and corruption but my old 2br was over 1k sq feet for 800/month so who's complaining?
this is absolutely wrong, you cannot buy them. you purchase shares which are tax-deductable but you are never considered an owner.

If you're a young professional, though, it's pretty boring and about an hour from the city (you must take a bus and a train. No way you're walking to the train unless you have a lot of time on your hands). Pomonok is a very tame housing project. As far as schools over there, I had a horrible time in junior high school over there (Parsons, which has since closed) and the zoned high school is Jamaica, which is horrible. The elementary school is pretty ok, at least when I went in the early 90s.
I'm a local 3 electrician. Back in the 90's when i was an apprentice, I sent a letter inquiring about an apartment. I never heard back. Back then, you had to "know somebody"...UNTIL lots of NON-electricians started moving in. WELL, now the local seems to give these apartments out to any Local 3 member who asks. I have a small condo now...which is worth less than what I paid for it.....so I'm not moving to Electchester any time soon! lol
does anyone knows how the loan from JIB goes? because i would like to get a loan of 7000 from them in order for me to get my apartment at elechester.. can someone help please
I lived in electchester from 1954 until 1979, with a short leave and then returned. It was a great place to live and raise kids. I haven't been there since th mid 80's when my mom left and moved down to fla. Permanently. In the beginning, you needed to know someone related to the electrician's union local 3. My dad wasn't an electrician but we got in. Now, it's on a waiting list basis. It is not a standard co=op type of set up. You can't sell it for market value. Transportation was a bus to the train or express bus to manhattan.
For a LOT of these places you gotta "know somebody!"
Sad but true.
Whenerver there's a deal, there's a lotta dirt!
To get a bargain apartment in New York you must deal will crooks...and outwit them in the best way you can.
(Gotta LOVE the term Electchester...so cute!)
