Hello folks

We will be travelling from Wash DC to Hartford, CT in a few weeks, via car, and would like to know the best route for getting thru the NYC area. Less traffic is better.

Also, we may try to drive on a Sunday if this will help keep traffic down.

Thanks

Don't go through NYC: go up the NJ Turnpike and onto the Tappan Zee bridge. Then stay on 287 across Westchester and then take the exit to 684 and stay on that, taking it to 84 and you're in Hartford.

Having done this drive many times myself on a Sunday, I can honestly say that it's a much better travel day, provided you leave DC early enough in the day. Sometimes, it's a pain in the neck in the usual suspect areas of congestion later in the day on Sunday, and it's also possible to run into road construction on a Sunday evening.
