Subway akwardness
You know when you sit down and youre directly across from someone else and you try not to stare and then you look at the ads on the wall and then you look out the window and then at the ground and then you get to the point on the ad thats near their head so they think your staring at them
What do you do to occupy yourself on the train?

That's why I hate elevators, you gotta always stare at someone at some point. I tend to just grab my phone and play with it lol....

I tend to read or do something with my phone, only to glance up at the exact moment the other person is staring at me. Some people really do squirm when they think they've been caught staring at another. It can be amusing, sometimes.

I'm a starer. I like to watch people. Today I sat in the bus, in a side seat, and I'd sometimes look over at everyone, not shy about fixing my eyes on whoever-for-whatever. I read on another forum that New Yorkers don't like to be stared at. But I like to keep aware of who's around me. And perhaps my steady gazing contributes to my photographic memory (which has quite literally scared the crap out of people more than a few times in my life).
However, I've learned that a smile helps the uneasiness.

If it's an attractive woman...
after I look away (because I don't like to be impolite and look too much) I wonder what it might be like to be married to her, then my mind drifts from the wedding night to "reality", then I picture us fighting, then getting separated, then divorced, by the time this awful story plays out, THE TRAIN STOPS AT MY STATION AND I GET TO LEAVE!!

lmao. That is too funny. But I always carry my phone to listen to music and avoid people talking to me and try to always have a book so that I can avoid eye contact. If no book then I close my eyes and try to only open them when the train pulls into a station.

Umm...I typically look around and see the look of misery/despondence in everyone's eyes...nobody ever looks even remotely happy/content/satisified....riding public transportation seems like it is filled with the most depressing group of people. So I like to look around at these sorry groups and wonder how truly miserable their lives must be..and how lucky I am to be me and not them! I always leave the train happy that I am none of them....

I always have something to read. You know how yawns are "contagious"? When I suspect that someone is staring at me I fake a yawn. When they yawn I glare at them and they generally start gawking at someone else.

I also read the wall street journal..it is a giant paper that blocks out half of the train....I try to annoy as many people as I can with my giant paper.
