Registering to vote/getting a NY State license?
I just moved here, and need to both register to vote in NY State, as well as obtain a NY State driver's license. Where do I go to do that?

When you get your license, you can apply to vote at the DMV. So you don't need to contact the Board of Elections.

I just did that last week. You don't have to go to the DMV in Queens you can do it in Manhattan. The express DMV is on 34th between 8th and 9th Avenue. It'll take about 30 minutes to an hour. Bring your passport, Tx license and social security card. You can also print and fill out the application before hand to save a couple minutes. Then when you get to the DMV go to the information counter to get a signature card, then wait in line to get your picture taken. As someone else said you can register to vote when you change your license.
Sadly you won't get a permanent license then. They will give you a temporary paper license and you will get the permanent one in the mail in about 2-4 weeks. I really don't understand why you can't get a permanent one on the spot. Even in podunk Louisiana where I am from you can get a permanent license on the spot.

I registered to vote when I renew my licence in 5/11 but I haven't got any notification about my voter registration. Does anyone know when/whether I should receive some kind of letter?

Before heading there, I'd check the DMV specifics re: proofs required, at
NYS DMV - Driver License, Learner Permit and Non-Driver Photo ID Card
Also note that you can opt either
-- for a regular license, or
-- for the new, enhanced driver's license. It costs more and requires more proofs, but can be used as a passport substitute for land-sea travel between the U.S. and Canada/Mexico/parts of the Caribbean.
(For info, click the "EDL" links on the aforementioned site.)

You can also call the DMV or visit their website New York State Department of Motor Vehicles - NYS DMV - NYSDMV - Driver - Vehicle and get the required forms you might need. It'll save you time. If you call them they will mail you all the forms free of charge.
Bring all your IDs that you have. I gave them my out of state DL, my passport and Social Security Card and they still asked me for another ID. Luckily I had my birth certificate and a credit card with me.
