And it's so damn close to the city-- it has some nice places to eat and relax.

I can't say where the worst area in the city is... but I think that anyplace with bad subway access is not a good idea. You need to be on the trains.
Agree with the last line. If you live in an infamous "double-fare zone," the vibe of the neighborhood will feel isolated and boring. If you live in a more dense neighborhood with excellent train access, you feel a better and more "flavorful" vibe.

Default Was Soundview or is it still...

considered a "step up" from the Area west of the Bx River? 2 decades ago I knew someone who lived on 141 street and Beekman Ave and they spoke of a plan to move to Soundview, I recall them speaking positively of it

The Soundview section closest to Hunts Point is as bad as any neighborhood west of it. It is basically an extention of Hunts Point. Sratford, Elder, Wheeler, Westchester, Watson, Boynton, Rosedale etc etc those and others are terrible streets. The person was probably reffering to the eastern section of Soundview, closer to Castle Hill. That area was not affected as much by blight.

I'll second that my family used to live in Brownsville on Mother Gaston(some still do). When I was a kid I never thought twice aobut visiting them. I would as often as possible. But now that I am an adult it kind of frightens me a little. I dont feel comfortable so I stay away.
The East...I never really had to thing about it was always a no no

I never felt unsafe in mannhattan. But I guess yrs ago, it was alot different. I feel safer in the south bronx, than in Gary, Indiana. There's ALOT of places in the deep south, that are scary as well. Some of that poverty looks like 3rd world down there.
NYC is not that bad overall compare to Chicago. If some NYC people really want to see some bad hoods, come to Englewood, Roseland, HUmboldt Park, or Lawndale in Chicago. Gary, IN pretty rough as well, and so is some Chicago suburbs. Cabrini Green & Robert Taylor projects in Chicago was rough as well before they tore them down.

There is a saying that just about everyone in Rochester is in a gang.
So you use to roll with Gangster Discples( Thats what they are called here in Chicago)? I didn't know NYC had Black P. Stones and GDs but the motherland for the gang is Chicago ; and Latin Kings are also a Chicago gang. Is the Latin Kings in NYC very violent ?

I could tell you the same thing. You want to see bad? Take a stroll through East Harlem, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Mott Haven etc

There are hoods everywhere. No hood is safer than another. The only thing that makes a city more dangerous than another is having more hoods. Chicago has more hoods than NYC. But they aren't any worse.

You are right, Thats absolutely true. A perfect example of what your city would look like if it is mostly hoods is Detroit. I got to give NYC its props, it came a long way of what it use to be back in the early 1990s and is now one of the safest big city in the country.

True. I keep that to myself but there are a few GD's in the east Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn. Much respect to the Chi. The Latin Kings here are now tolerating the Bloods here banging their 5!!!

yes in east harlem condos are going for upwards of 700 or more and selling
so yes the old element is still there but the buying and moving in of the new element continues, as it does in bed sty .... where houses are going for

if these places are so bad, why are people that can buy in NJ and Long Island and connecticut buying there and they have not just start buying there
