But today I was told a class will be going in no later than August. So I am pretty optimistic. Judging that I was told this by the person at Sanitation that will be calling me if I were to get called. I do not think that after being very tightlipped for a year and a half he would all of a sudden start spreading false rumors. So things are lookin up.

Don't get excited...Bloomberg just sent a notification to all agency heads for another $1.3 billion in cuts and to have their proposals to him by April 7th.

here's the article from NY1
Mayor Bloomberg is now ordering city agency heads to prepare for a worst-case budget scenario of cuts of up to $1.3 billion dollars in state funding to the city. He said the results would be catastrophic, and that almost 19,000 employees would have to go, including more than 8,500 teachers.

I saw the video and it dont look good. Worse case they want to cut 3.6 percent. I would assume that they have that class in the numbers so it can be cut. If we have 8000 sanitation workers 10 percent is 800 and 3.6 percent would be about 288. This would be the last 2 class and this next class which they want to put in before the end of the summer. What i think will happen is this. They will make a deal which states no layoffs and no new class but that is just my opinion. Just as a side note in my district a good amount of people are leaving so our numbers are decreasing.

I heard on the news that worse case scenario DSNY would layoff 900, lets hope it doesn't come to that. Commissioners are being given until April 7 to come up with specific plans for the cuts.

I heard one way to avoid layoffs would be to give up the 4%....n we all know that will never happen and hey you cant blame them thats something they fought for and cant risk of losing because who knows if you will ever get that back...

Worst case budget cuts
Sources tell CBS 2's Marcia Kramer that if all the cuts are taken in personnel it would mean:
- 3,150 fewer NYPD officers.
- 1,000 fewer FDNY firefighters (which means the closure of 42 engine companies).
- 8,500 fewer teachers in city classrooms.
- The elimination of 900 sanitation workers.
- 500 fewer parks workers.
- 500 fewer Transportation Department employees.
- 400 fewer librarians.
- Cuts to all five district attorneys offices.
- 13 Staten Island Ferry trips per day could be cut.
Budget Director Mark Page says there is no way to accurately predict what cuts the state will ultimately impose, so it's best to prepare for the worst. The commissions have until April 7 to tell the mayor exactly what they propose to cut.

1010 wins said 900 sw..... Thats the only source i know of that even mentions sw. You only hear fireman, police, teachers... Your math for the 3.6% is way off... They arent talking 3.6% in personnel. 3.6% money might = 900 sw. They will get hired bak within 6-8 months anyway... You can collect unemployment for like 2 yrs now also. When they had layoff before guys were making more money getting UE then working here.
