Allegedly they've hired people with list numbers in the upper 3000s from the previous conductor exam. Don't know if that's comforting or not. Will you get hired within the "next year or so"? Don't know. If they were to hire based on the rate from the previous exam, maybe within 2 years you'll get contacted. The word is that many are going to retire soon and others will move to different positions. So maybe things will move fast. Who knows...

Hey Guys
The last # that was called from the 2004 conductors exam was 3025. That list expired on August 3, 2009. One guy I know was list # 2081 and he got called 2 years and 3 months after the list was established just to give people an idea.

I have another question, I took the train operators test on June 6th 2009 and also took the conductors test and passed it with a 96, If I should get called in for the conductor job and if I also passed the train operators test with the same score can I transfer over to train operator or would I have to stay with the conductors job and take the train operators test again? P,S Thank You member 009 I found your information useful

After you become a conductor you can only transfer after taking the next Promotional T/O exam. However that will be a much shorter list then the open competitive exam. Good luck! 96 is a great score for any civil service exam.

If you get called off the open competitive for conductor and take the job and then get called off the open competitive exam for T/O you cannot 'transfer' from conductor to T/O but what you would have to do is resign from the conductor position and then accept the T/O position. Hope this helps.

Don't plan on going to college for a few years. I am 23 and have 2 years as a conductor and trust me working 60-80 hours most weeks and never knowing what time your going to get off you wont be able to stay in school. I heard they called up a few hundred people already to start the process of getting hired. Good luck all

You can always tell them your not ready yet and take the job when your ready but you will lose seniority

Fred 98 SS# 11111 List # 1
John 98 SS# 11112 List # 2

It actually goes by who filed for the test first

When they send you the letter you will go down to Livingston early in the morning arrive early sit in the front and bring lunch. You will be given a bunch of paper work to fill out then you will be given a drug test and will be told you will get a call back in up to 30 business days if you past your drug test. When you get called back you will take a full physical (EKG, vision, hearing) there is always a chance you will be put on medical hold so its good to have paper work from your doctor if you have anything wrong with you that they can detect. When your done with all that you will get sworn in get your rule book, take your picture for your pass, and get finger printed. They will then tell you your in the next class they might give you the date when you start or they might call you a few days b4 and tell you that you start Monday and where to be at. GOOD LUCK ALL
