For pizza that's authentic NY in LA, check out Mulberry Street Pizza that's owned by actress Cathy Moriarty. To make the pizza authentic thin crust, she even trucks in the water from NY for the dough, and it's as really very close to the real thing in LA.

Well, I was born and raised in California, and all my life I never took my state for granted. Always felt fortunate to live there, even as a kid. (I'm in Oregon now, which has its good and bad points.) But I always had a fascination for New York, always wanted to see it, even thought about living there for a year or two when I was younger. But I never envied it or wanted to move there permanently. I love the California climate too much.
I never did live there for that year or two, and since then I've decided that I can't handle the winters. HOWEVER ~ I am taking a trip to NYC at the end of this month for 10 days, my 1st visit. I am a little older now, and I realized a few months ago that seeing New York is in my Bucket List.

It goes both ways, I just moved here from LA. Its really a matter of preference. In cali, ive met people who wanted to see nyc and though highly of it, others just viewed it as being dirty and gloomy with rude people.
But I never understood it when people say "laid back attitude" in cali. I never saw it.

im curious what Cali people think of NYC, from a new yorkers point of view. meaning how does a new yorker percieve a Cali person to percieve us if that makes any sense. growing up i always thought they envied us and wished they could live here in the center of the universe...
|
In L.A. we always think everybody envies us!..lol There are soooo MANY people from all over the country and thw world that move here to L.A. I think the Los Angeles area is the most desirable/popular area for people to move to. I really noticed the 20 & 30 year old crowds seem to be moving here in droves from the midwest and what not.

I'm a native NY'er who envies the Cali lifestyle. Yes, I love the culture of NYC but I'd much rather live on the beach.
|
Out of towners always picture the beach areas not realizing that L.A. is so much more than the beach. So many of the desirable areas are not on or even near the beach in L.A. Yes, Santa Monica (my home), Malibu, Pac Palidades and Manhattan Beach are desirable beach communities, but that's it as far as descent beach communities in L.A.)

I guess very few ever admit that there are pluses and minuses wherever in the good old USA one lives or ends up. No one part - including NYC - will ever fulfill every innate and outward desire one has, every goal or dream, every yearning or aspiration. We can come as close as possible to that perect match but there'll always be a tradeoff.
To me Cali is a beautiful place with beaches, gorgeous year-round weather, sunshine, beautiful babes in skimpy bikinis, Eva Longoria, vineyards, valleys, hills, redwood trees; it is also a place where urban sprawl finds its quintessence, where freeways and racing drivers turn the highways into a NASCAR outing, where gangs are among the worst in the nation, where bimbos with hotel fortunes and no talent ride a high wave, where it's easy to catapult from grade B action star to governor, a place where the hippie movement came to life, and the list goes on.
NYC too has its great pluses and minuses. The pluses are here for all to see - even on a brief visit or on first sight. The negatives creep up on you once you've been here a while. But isn't that like anyplace else?

Well first off the pace of life is slower--but it's more of a non-NY thing than a specific Cali thing. My dad's a manager in a consulting company and he abhors working with company branches in other states, California included, because you guys are "lazy," in his words. It would probably be more accurate to say "relaxed" because of the less competitive atmosphere. In NYC the only way to stay laid back in life is to work for civil service or get a union job, haha.
stereotypical people from Cali also have drawls. Maybe that makes them seem laid back to us? I dunno. Probably like how southerners seem so friendly to us, but it probably doesn't stand out if you're raised there.
