Don't get me wrong I'll always want more money who wouldn't but most of us dont complain .I am thankful for the job I have ,it's a good honest job that puts food on the table and good health care for my family and it has helped me build a good life for them so I cant complain .But you always try to get more it's human nature

Hey did you read that post about, "Thanks for not whining and complaining like every other city union member"? What was up with that post? I never will understand why the average person bum raps unions. It's like, we got them the 40hr work week, overtime pay, paid holidays or atleast premium time for holidays. I know alot of them are probably salary workers though. Mad cause they dont get a bump in pay for working overtime. No defined pension plan. End up paying for alot of their healthcare coverage, etc. Nobody told them to take that job though. Dont they understand, without unions, America would not be what it is today. Educated people make good money the world over. The difference is the 'working class' dont. And it's almost impossible for their kids to climb out of that poverty and get educated because of that fact. Imbrace the UNIONS people. They serve alot bigger purpose than you think.

Irish eyes, as I'm typing this response you might have already posted a reply. Now, me being someone who was born an raised in Pittsburgh, Pa., obviously I have STRONG UNION beliefs. Ask any labor historian "What was the DEFINING moment in America's labor movement"? Most will probably tell you that it was the 'HOMESTEAD STRIKE' ( Homestead is just outside the city limits of Pittsburgh). All my family is or was union. Whether they were construction workers, cops, fireman etc. Even my grandmother was UNION !LOL You know when Henry Ford opened his first plant, he paid his workers $5.00 a day. Which at the time was double the going rate for similiar jobs. He still had trouble keeping people. Some jobs are harder than alot of people think. Did you know that the average CEO back in the mid 1970's earned a salary of about 40 times what the 'workers' of the company was making. You know what a CEO of today makes? It's 400 times! When people say "The Rich are getting RICHER" is TRUE. Some people think that UNIONS are drunk with power. All they are trying to do is LEVEL the playing field. If your hubby dont want to join the union, tell him to quit his job if he feels that STRONGLY about it. No need to be anti-union because the majority of the workers at his place of employment want to try an improve their lives through COLLECTIVE BARGAINING.

Part of the problem (for him), I think, is that his union consists of too many different types of workers. I believe most professions have their own unions. Like steelworkers, police, fire, etc - they don't have one organization looking out for all of that. In his situation there are just too many bad workers being protected. When he looks for a new job, it will likely be outside of NY where this union ISN'T. I don't spend my free time campaigning against all unions! lol. They are definitely needed to protect employees interests - some professions probably need it more than others and some unions do less harm than others (as far as keeping slugs who wouldn't last a day if they could be fired). I'm doing okay with my choices and benefits. I'd like more vacation time, but I don't have to lift anything heavier than a ream of paper!

If he's a 'working stiff' who's actively seeking a NON-union job, good luck to the both of you. He wont have no problem finding one that's for sure. But I bet you his benefits and pay will be less too. But as long as he's happy that's all that matters to the both of you. I would venture to say that EVERY line of work there are people who dont pull their weight.

Non-union mechanic turned x-ray tech. How's that for a massive change? Mostly he's just happy there's air conditioning and he doesn't have to work in the rain.
