Default Exercising in NYC

Hi all-

I'm moving to nyc next summer from southern california. I wanted advice about health clubs/gyms and/or pilates/yoga studios in Williamsburg/Greenpoint area (this is the area that we are looking to stay in at first). Does anyone know of any good ones? I did a google search but I always feel people's experiences are the best way to find out.

I'm coming from a place where cold is 60 degrees. I love to run outside and hardly ever run into weather problems. I've seen people out and running in nyc when its 35 degrees out, but what about when it's wet and snowy? Are there certain work out clothes that are warmer than others, or will the usual nike spandex work?

Sorry if this post sounds a little silly and random, but I appreciate your advice!

Thanks

Come on over and we'll climatise you. Don't worry about clothing yet. It all works out. when you jog in the cold you work up a sweat. keeps the metabolism high, you feel warm, and can jog even in single digits. Why, I've seen ladies in bathing suits sometimes jogging in my neighborhood.

Someone else will advise you about gyms in Williamsburg - I just wanted to welcome you to the Big Apple and say, not to worry, it'll all be taken care of, the right apparel, etc.

You might try searching for this type of info on yelp.com

Try Yoga Brooklyn | Yelp

There are 13 reviews of the only "good" gym I remember from when I lived in that area (moved out in Spring 2006). http://www.yelp.com/biz/maxim-health...GZA/query:yoga

There may well be other gyms by now.
