Ridgewood, Queens
Can we get something going on about Ridgewood, Queens? Looks like an awesome place to live. Is it diverse? Is the area vibrant/alive?

It's diverse. Seems to have a large Eastern European population and Latino population. I like the area. I think it has a Brooklyn feel to it. Residential, working class area. I would live there.

Streets do look interesting as well. I like the mix of culture and construction in the area. Could it be like a piece of Astoria with a hunk of Greenpoint maybe = Ridgewood???

NJ Chutzpah is right. Ridgewood echos NYC of the 30s or 40s...the blocks contain pretty safe tree-lined streets with a good mix of Eastern European, Italian, Latino, etc. nationalities, and prices were super cheap 5-6 years ago. Now, it's tough to find anything "cheap," but you can purchase a 2 or 3 family for $650-$800k or so...a 6 family is typically $600-$750k or so...this hood is fairly quiet, with some good delis, restaurants, and small shops here and there. Nothing trendy or hip, or out of ordinary. A good, classic neighborhood still....

I lived in Ridgewood when I was a kid, and I miss it to this day. Ridgewood is a BEAUTIFUL area. I lived off Woodbine St. (Right by Fresh Pond Rd). It a very nice area. I've seen my fairshare of crime there, but for the most part it seems to be cleaning up.

The Only Problem with Ridgewood is the Subway -
The M is Part time to Mahattan, on weekends/late nights it only takes you to and from Myrtle and you have to trsf to the J, then if you're going uptown or Midtown you have to trsf to the F at Essex, Or take it to the L for 14th street..
There are plenty of buses that take you from Dtown BK to Ridgewood, but buses can be a pain.
My preference is - I dont want to live anywhere thats not close to and doesnt have realiable subway service.
