Front St...Main St..Water St - Brooklyn
Just wondering what the areas like? Im hitting NYC next month, visiting my cousins and will be visiting Gleasons Boxing Gym on Front Street for some sparring afew evenings that week(Yes, its sad but Im only 18 and cant go partying much). However I'll be making my way there from Union Square on my own and I'd rather not be walking through some shanty town slum in the late evening just to punch and get punched in the face..
So anyone know the area?? Is it safe(ish)????
Thanks in advance,
IK

You better be careful, those yuppies are known to throw a mean left hook. Seriously this neighborhood is full of harmless hipsters and young professionals, they'll probably cross the street when they see you!

Hey now, the streets around there can be a little rough, since not two days ago I nearly had the door taken off my car by a speeding Saab whose driver appeared to be texting and was all over the road.
That area has been pretty safe for a while now, so there's nothing to worry about as others have said.

It's safe. Not especially pretty, but safe. That part of Brooklyn was called Fulton Ferry from the 18th century until about 25 years ago. Now, thanks in large part to yuppies (and their descendants, hipsters) it's referred to as DUMBO--Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.
