Mel Blanc was from Portland, Oregon. (Bugs Bunny, however, was from Flatbush. He said so himself, so it must be true!)

If anyone has ever ventured outside of the tourist areas of NYC, they would see very quickly that NY accents of all kinds, no matter how horrible they sound/are, are alive and well and flourishing (unfortunately).

It has nothing to do with sounding the same, it has to do with sounding BAD. And the accents here are bad, let's face it. The ghetto/ebonics accents are horrendous, the Brooklyn/Guido accent is laughable and ludicrous, and the old school NYC working class accents throughout the boroughs (aka Archie Bunker) are downright embarassing. It is one thing to have a slight NYC accent of some kind, but I am referring specifically to the hard core accents which are truly repulsive. How can you take any of these people seriously when it sounds like they have never left their block, or interacted with anyone that isn't exactly like them. Do you know how hard it is to have one of these accents? You have to be very isolated to a particular area, and surrounded by a certain group ALL THE TIME. And as you age, you continue to only be in this isolated environment...scary. By the way, I also find the Boston accents to be even worse though.

Yes that is exactly what I am saying. I cringe when I hear these people talk...it is scary. And I was born and raised and still live in NYC..Mott Haven...so I deal with this on a daily basis. The worst though might be those LI accents, like Massapequa...yikes.

You probably have the accent. Go outside the state and watch how people bombard you with "are you from NY"?
I love it. It makes us stand out. Even though I dont talk like Joe Pesci.
But whats Guido?

I know I have an accent, it is just not as fierce as most others...but that's normal..I should have some sort of accent, I am from NY after all. A Guido is the sterotypical Italian, with the wife-beater, camaro, etc...heavy Soprano style accent and love freestyle/dance music. You should know that...thats NYC basics.

I guess you'd cringe if you heard me speak. Grew up in Massapequa.
