Try the dental clinic at either Columbia University School of Dentistry or NYU School of Dentistry.

My job doesn't offer dental insurance so I have my own through www.Healthplex.com called "DentCare". It requires a yearly fee and most preventive and diagnostic care is covered (in network), aside from a co-pay [per visit]. Of course, you'd have to pay for actual dental work but I believe at reduced rates.

I did NYU school. It was $90 for the initial visit (paperwork, exam, xrays). From there they worked about a monthly payment plan that was ok, also their prices to begin with are about half of regular dentist
