Not being a Yankee fan myself, I take a much greater pleasure in remembering when Horace Clarke patrolled the infield. Those were the days!

I'd have thought for the Yankee haters, 1990 would have been the best, they were 67-95 and Steinbrenner got suspended.

He did, he was suspended twice. Once in the 1970s for illegal campaign contributions to the Nixon campaign and then again in 1990 for paying gambler Howie Spira to gather dirt on Dave Winfield. The suspension lasted until 1993 and during that time, the Yankees managed to rebuild the farm system with Jeter, Rivera, Pettitte, Williams and Posada.

Actually, Steinbrenner's antics were nothing new as regards the Yankees. They did a phenomenal job of myth-building, but the truth is that the franchise has never been one of baseball's most savory. And when major league baseball began integrating after 1947, the Yanks held out until 1955 before signing Elston Howard.

if I remember correctly Andy Hawkins threw a no-hitter and yet still managed to lose the game 4-0. I mean tossing a no-no and losing 1-0? rare but feasible. But he gave up four runs! Sorta sums up that era for them.

I'm a met fan btw and yes we are pathetic and will probably blow it and miss the post season this year, again. But at least we lasted longer than the skanks! that's some consolation.

btw save yr fingers I already know the standard skank fan response to everything - 26.

Here's how Hawkins lost that game:

WHITE SOX 8TH: Karkovice popped to second; Fletcher popped to
second; Sosa reached on an error by Blowers; Sosa stole second;
Guillen walked; Johnson walked [Sosa to third, Guillen to
second]; Ventura reached on an error by Leyritz [Sosa scored
(unearned) (no RBI), Guillen scored (unearned) (no RBI), Johnson
scored (unearned) (no RBI), Ventura to second]; Calderon reached
on an error by Barfield [Ventura scored (unearned), Calderon to
second]; Pasqua popped to shortstop; 4 R (0 ER), 0 H, 3 E, 1
LOB. Yankees 0, White Sox 4.
