Remember when no one had a cell phone, some people had a beeper/pager, and everyone's internet was 56k?

I remember when Manhattan shut down on Sundays!!
The only things open were the churches, the bakeries, the newsstands & the Jewish section downtown where you could find ANYTHING!! My dad would take me down there & get some pastrami, salami & mustard to bring home from Katz's Deli & he'd buy me these pods called "St. John's Bread" (now they're known as carob ) off the street vendor!!
I grew up on the upper east side in an old rent-controlled tenement!! When we left there in '73, the rent for the 2-bedroom apartment was $68.00 a month!!! (the landlord didn't charge extra for the rats & roaches... )
Aaaaahhhh....memories....

I think they all went to the Bronx. They're practically swarming around here in the summer.
Anyone else old enough to remember the commercial for the Milford Plaza from the seventies? That was on all the time at some point.

Yes, the Milford Plaza...that was so annoying a commercial, but catchy jingle. I also remember the commercials for the Poconos resorts, especially Caesar's with the champagne glass or heart-shaped tubs. LOL

I remember the multi-colored borough specific street signs before they switched to the standard green.
The Bronx had Blue. Manhattan yellow. Brooklyn brown. Queens white. Staten Island I think had black.
I also remember the old redbird #2 trains that you can look out the front window.

Mr. Softee's are everywhere in Astoria. I always see them around Steinway/28th ave and 31st street/Ditmars blvd. Other areas too. I hear them driving around sometimes too.
