Just returned from a FANTASTIC vacation in NYC
Just wanted to drop a line and tell you how much I continue to appreciate NYC and its people. Went up for the last game at Yankee Stadium, and stayed a week at the Algonquin. I had the time of my life. The weather was absolutely perfect, and every single person I met was polite and friendly.
I'm from Texas, but I spend a lot of time in New York, and I am never disappointed. I did some 'touristy' things this time, like taking the Cityview tours and going over to Brooklyn, and enjoyed those as well.
I think NYC gets a bad rep for the attitude of its citizens. I rarely run into rude or unfriendly people. It is a myth that New Yorkers won't engage in a conversation with strangers; in fact, they're often the ones who engage me. Got into a great debate in a deli with a guy from the Bronx about how the Yankees are run, and although the debate was heated, the guy was never rude to me.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know that I enjoy your state, your city and it's people. Take care.

What a great post! I think there is nothing New Yorkers like more than helping a confused tourist on the streets of Manhattan find his destination. New Yorkers might talk fast and seem a little gruff, but there is a lot of goodeness inside. Thanks again.

Thanks! It's always nice to be complimented as a city and as residents. Glad you enjoyed. Sorry the Yanks didn't do it this year. Well, neither did my team, the Mets!
NYC, like any other place, has its upsides and its downsides, its pleasant people and its rude, its high moments and its low. We are unique, though, in other characteristics - job opportunities, cultural amenities, dining options, entertainment variety, and so forth.
Great to hear from you. Thanks again.

I stayed at a hotel in NC (in the Durham area) last year and I had gotten into a friendly discussion with the hotel clerk about the Yankees and A Rod. When he saw I lived in the Bronx he told me I'm lucky to live near the stadium(he likes baseball) and we started talking. Some people considerably outside NY can be cool to New Yorkers
